Crime continues to climb in Ballarat

15 December 2016

New statistics released today confirm that criminal activity in the Ballarat region continues to surge under Daniel Andrews.

Local Ballarat MP Joshua Morris has renewed calls for more local police and a strengthening of the justice system in the wake of today’s alarming Crime Statistics Agency data.

“It will come as no surprise to Ballarat locals that crime continues to rise at a disturbing rate in our city,” Mr Morris said.

“Everyone in Ballarat knows someone who has been the victim of a crime in the last couple of years and today’s figures confirm that since Daniel Andrews was elected the local crime is up by nearly 17%.”

“In the meantime the number of local police on the beat has dropped and we desperately need the Government to deploy more police here in Ballarat.”

Today’s statistics show that crime continues to surge out of control under Daniel Andrews, up by 7.7% in Ballarat to the year ending 30 September 2016 and 16.88% since December 2014.

“Under Daniel Andrews the justice system is in crisis due to weak sentencing, watered down bail laws, repeal of move on laws, cuts to frontline police and closure of police stations,” Mr Morris said.

“The Andrews Government should stop focusing on internal squabbles and instead put Victorians first by focusing on fixing the justice system and stemming the flow of criminal activity in our state. “

“Victorians are less safe because of Daniel Andrews’ soft on crime approach and that’s simply not good enough.”
